SALAD...the newest work of art

In the last year a Pizza Hut has opened in my city...crazy, huh? The thing about Pizza Hut in China though is that it is a ritzy, sit down restaurant...a little different from your run-down buffet in the states. There is, however, a salad bar. If you want the salad bar, you get a small bowl and ONE TRIP to the salad bar. Because getting the salad bar is not cheap, the Chinese, in their ingenenuity have made salad into an art. They will make salads that are 1/2 foot tall...I'm not kidding...it's amazing. I have gone to Pizza Hut once, and the entire time I was there, and even as I left, the same one person was at the salad bar making their salad. Here is a picture of one of my attempts at making a masterpiece...I still have a long way to go.

True story...
so i heard this story yesterday and I thought it was worth telling. So, there is this girl who was dog sitting for a family in ny while they were away in europe for 3 weeks. The dog was like 12 years old and one day the girl went over and discovered the dog had passed away. She called the family and they were like, 'well, we were kind of expecting it to happen. Could you get rid of the dog for us, we aren't going to be home for another 2 weeks?' She didn't really know what to do, so he decided to take it to the vet and get them to dispose of it. It was a rather large dog so she found a rolling suit case and put it in there and headed for the subway. She had a little difficulty getting on the subway and this man asked if he could help her. As he was lifting it, he said it was really heavy and asked her what was in there. She didn't want to say a dead dog, so she said, 'computer equipment.' At the next subway stop, the door opened, the girl got punched in the stomach and the man ran off with the suit case. You can only imagine what happened from there.
Don't Pull out my Face Hair...
Ok, so the other day I went to a wedding of a teacher at my school...which I should tell you about that sometime too...but it would have to be another total post. ..but anyways, I'm sitting at the table with a bunch of my classmates enjoying good food and good music. Before I go into this story I need to give you a little background on the people here. If you have hair growing on your face, no matter how long, no matter if you are a guy or a girl...people don't like to pluck it, or get rid of it. My understanding is that if you have this long hair it means that you are wise, or something like that. So, it's not uncommon here to see a man with a mole on his face with super long hairs growing out of it...when I see that I ALWAYS wish that I had scissors, or tweezers, or something! So, back to the wedding...I'm talking to this girl and I go to brush this hair off her face, as I go to do it, she says something, but it doesn't register...but the hair is still there, so I go to brush it off her face again when what she says registers..."Zhang zhe ne" (it's growing) meaning "Stop trying to get rid of that hair because it's growing on my face and I like it"!!!

My Transportation of Choice

There are so many things that need to be said about this picture...first, I love riding my bike (except in sand storms and sub zero temperatures)...second, I think pumping someone on the back of your bike (or being pumped) is SOOO great. I know that many of you have never had this once in a life time experience...so pack your bags and come on over and I promise you a ride on the back of my bike! The funny thing about bike pumping is that I think it's technically illegal, but EVERYONE does it, and NO ONE gets in trouble for doing it. When you get to intersections where there are cops, you just jump off the back of the bike and walk across the intersection and then hop right back on...how's that for evading the law??? Now, you may be wondering what my friend and I are wearing on our faces...No, these are not SARS masks...these are worn in the winter and spring to either A) keep your face warm (which they do!) or B) keep the sand out of your mouth during one of our insane sand storms in the spring. I must say that in the winter when I wore one of these, I was the butt of a lot of jokes from my American friends...but you know what they say...When in Rhome, do as the Romans do....works for me.

MOO MOO UPDATE
The MOO MOO went over with laughs all around. I even won an award for the most hilarious gift! She has decided to keep it a secret and actually bust it out on the wedding night!

MOO MOO HONEYMOON
So, tonight i am going to my friend's bridal shower...among the many things i got her....I couldn't resist and purchased a MOO MOO just like this one. I think i'm going to preface it with...'this will be the perfect follow up to the line, 'let me slip into something a little more comfortable.'" Gosh, I have always wanted to do this...i hope it goes over as funny as I am imagining it. I'll let you know.

REAL WORLD...China Style

Who ever knew that one day in my life would be interesting enough for tv!!?? Yes, it's true, this last week I have been filming for a tv program called "Story"...they've followed me around all over the place and made me wear a microphone and everything! I think this week I've realized that I'm not cut out for the life of a tv star....not so good at the whole acting thing. I know what you're thinking...man, if this was like Real World, there should be no acting involved...right? But what about the moments when they weren't rolling film and they really liked what I did or said...well, then I had to do it again, while the camera was rolling. Take this picture for example...these are not my clothes...these are the traditional clothes of a minority people group here...but I had to pretend like I got these clothes made for a performance I have coming up...so now I have dabbled in acting too! Who knows what's next!!?? This program should air on tv at the end of this month...I'll let you know how it goes and see if I can get tons of copies to send to all my hommies in the states.
