The Show-Me State

Ross and I went to Missouri this last week to help with a work-week at Young Life's Clearwater Cove property. The camp is not yet in operation, so we did a lot of hard-core work to get it ready for small groups to come in this summer. I got to ride the lawn mower and power wash--I think riding lawn mowers are my new calling.

The camp is on Table Rock Lake near the Branson area. We were really suprised by what a beautiful area Table Rock Lake is. It looks like New Braunfels but it is much larger. Young Life currently owns 280 acres on Table Rock and there is all kinds of history in that area b/c it is right on the line of the north and south during the Civil War. Another point of interest was that Bonnie and Clyde used to live in the valley (before the lake was flooded) and they would come up to the property and get groceries from the people who had houses on the camp's land.

During the evenings, we would jump off of the cliffs at the edge of camp and swim around to the dock.

The area is definately real Rednecks. It isn't odd to hear the term, "We ain't got no more of that." The high school kids who were out there helping were so fun with their good old boy accents. I feel like I think in Southern Missouri slang now.

We had a really great time on our little adventure. We decided we like vacations were you get to work b/c it is easier to escape life than just sitting on the beach and letting your mind wander. We were really refreshed by the people we got to know while we were there and were definately affirmed in our desire to end up as property staff somewhere in the near future.

That is just an hour north from where Adam grew up. It's amazing he didn't come out with an accent. Oh, and we spent part of our honeymoon on that lake. It sure is beautiful!
